Winter solstice is coming
Share:
The winter solstice, which is the twenty-second of the twenty-four solar terms, is celebrated from 21 to 23 December each year when the sun is at 270° of the yellow meridian. This year's winter solstice is on 21 December, a day when the sun is directly above the Tropic of Capricorn and the northern hemisphere has the shortest day and longest night. After the winter solstice, the sun will turn its head all the way to the north, and the sunlight and daylight hours will increase day by day, and the activities of life will begin to slowly change from decline to prosperity, and from static to rotation.
In northern regions, it is customary to eat dumplings on the winter solstice to prevent frostbite on the ears. In the south, it is customary to eat soup dumplings to symbolise reunion.
Happy Winter Solstice to everyone!
